This fundraiser is for $1500, a portion of the apprx. $2400 in expenses paid for his recent bowel obstruction set back.  We picked Luke up today from Texas A & M after he almost died from a bowel obstruction after months of dealing with intestinal trauma from hookworms :(    Luke has made a full recovery thanks to the expertise of Texas A & M and he is now up for adoption.  He still has a few weeks of healing his insides, though.  Our vet bills for the past few months have been over $3700.00, but we just could not let this puppy die.  Luke does have a mild stricture (narrowing) of his rectal area (probably from scar tissue), but he should live a normal, healthy life with precautionary measures of a special high fiber food and some stool softeners.   Luke is staying with his original rescuers under their watchful eye until he finds a forever home.   He is just so darn sweet, and their were lots of teary-eyed vets today giving him tons of kisses good bye and wishing they had room at home to adopt him.  Luke really needs more people to like his facebook page so that he can find a good home as he is special needs due to the need to maintain soft stools.
As one veterinary specialist wrote " Luke is an absolute sweet heart...he has a fantastic attitude”.

6/17/ update:  Once I know more on cost and prognosis, I will post a chip in and really appreciate any help with donations, grant ideas, etc…  Luke had a life threatening set back late last night, and we rushed him to Texas A & M emergency clinic.  The short story  is that his bowels are clogged with dirt, leaves, foreign material from what appears to be PICA (where they ingest large quantities of foreign material within minutes) and from just a few minutes in a dog run while being fed his dinner yesterday at his foster home (and was probably a similar reason he was impacted on friday/saturday morning requiring the enema).  He screamed in horrible pain on the ride there--yet was still so sweet with everyone .  The ER vet said "They had never seen anything like this before"..and immediately put him in ICU.   He is still in pain today despite fluids all night to try to break up the material and rehydrate him, and pain meds :(    But, the specialist is doing a several hour procedure right now to try to  clean him out enough to afford relief and be able to do a scope to see if surgery is required (dependent on what the issues are) and prognosis.    The pica may be due to the a dead worm load in the bowels..but they will not know until the scope..the specialist is relatively confident he will need surgery.  We will need a new foster IF he pulls through..it is still touch and go at this point.   Gulf Coast has also been wonderful in consulting over the phone on this new issue.

6/16/12 update---only 16 hours left in the Indiegogo fundraising campaign. There is a gallery with   about a dozen photos and an invoice from the vet at the Indiegogo fundraising link. Here is Nicole Fiori's update:

The donation campaign ends tonight at 11:59 , so please share--thank you.  Luke had a slight set back yesterday with extreme constipation requiring xrays at regular vet and then this morning she performed an emergency sedation with enema to avoid a fecal impact/prolapse..it is just taking time for his bowels to build back up from the worms/infections(which are gone now).   So, we incurred several hundred dollars this morning and his foster paid several hundred yesterday.  Add to all of this  the $846 paid 2 months ago when this all began, and we are now over $2000.00.  So, it would be nice to help with the remaining $280 for the already paid gulf coast bill paid.  We will have continued expenses for his special intestinal foodstool softeners and continuing meds over the next month or so.   He is officially up for adoption, though--as the specialist and regular vet do not see any medical issues other then intestinal healing from the parasites/hookworm infection.    He really is a great, crazy, silly puppy that loves life and people/dogs despite his suffering with horrible pain these past few months.  Thank you.

Great..thank you for asking.  So far so good on the prolapse not getting worse..and taking all his meds daily to hopefully cure the issue in the next few months.   I am about to update his website. He went to a foster yesterday.  They met at the dog park with their 3 dogs, and Luke played great with them and all the other dozens of dogs at the park.  He is very much a puppy with the energy of a bully breed :)   No luck on raising any money, though. Will keep trying.

There really is no amount too small if it will relieve a pet from such excruciating pain.

Thanks so much.

Douglasville GA: Sad update. RIP little kitty. RE: 6/20 NO OFFERS! RE: INJURED Big-Head Needs HELP! (Kitty)

6/23 Sad update. The tumor was removed last Friday and he was staying in the vet hospital; 6/21 kitty was having a veterinary procedure and when he was sedated his heart stopped. Cathy tried for months to capture him and then she continued to valiantly give him a chance for a nice long life with the best medical treatment, but it just didn't turn out the way one would hope. Please help Cathy with donations if you can.

Living alone out in the woods, this sweet-eyed boy hid in the shadows for months, sneaking up to the house at night to share food left out for a neighbor's underfed cat.  As time went on he grew bolder, and began coming out in the daytime, screaming loudly for food and company.
Eventually, he ventured close enough for the horrible injury to his right rear flank to be revealed.  It looked like he had been grabbed by something, his back end so deformed that the rectum was pushed completely out of place.  It was obvious that he needed medical attention, but it was months before he allowed himself to be touched, petted, and then finally picked up and helped onto the table holding his food.  He began to enjoy having his neck rubbed while he ate, and would lower his head to solicit contact.
At long last this past Friday, he was captured and taken to the vet's for examination.  It was determined that he had indeed been bitten, and the untreated wound had abcessed, inflamed, and turned into a tumor site.  On Saturday, he went into an intense 2+ hours of surgery (click here to see slideshow of the operation).  The vet said that the tumor was the size of his fist, and was a "three-headed monster", reaching all the way down his thigh, and along the spine.  He was able to remove all of this, and had just enough skin to close.
The vet will keep him hospitaized for about two weeks to ensure complete recovery.  He has been vaccinated and combo tested (he was negative), treated for fleas and worms, and of course, neutered.  The cost for all of this, including recovery is considerable, and help with the bill is very much needed. Please consider donating (info below).
This poor cat has had a hard life fending for himself, finally putting precious trust in the one who gave him food for survival.  The last thing he needs right now, is to have to return to that life. He needs a calm, quiet indoor home, with someone who understands that patience and time will be rewarded with the love and devotion of a truly deserving animal.  This will be a true rescue.

If you can provide a new life for special boy, please contact:  cpqcpq6@yahoo.com (at yahoo.com).
Thank you so much!

Santa Maria CA: Urgent message from The Animali Farm horse rescue

Subject: Urgent message from The Animali Farm horse rescue

THE ANIMALI FARM
THIS IS AN URGENT MESSAGE TO OUR LOYAL SUPPORTERS
The Animali Farm is really feeling the financial burden brought on by the ongoing recession, combined with the outrageous price of hay in Central California. As always we remain committed to finding good homes for horses that would otherwise be headed to slaughter, but it is getting nearly impossible to do our job due to lack of funding.
Nearly all of our work is supported by small individual donations. Even a small donation helps tremendously, especially if everyone helps. This newsletter goes to approximately 10,000 people and if everyone pitched in $20 it would be enough to pay The Animali Farm's operating expenses for the entire year, fill up the hay sheds, and save the lives of the next 150 horses that need our help.
We currently have about 2 weeks in feed, and room to store two full truckloads. This time of year we should be making a big purchase to get the horses through winter, but there is no money in the bank account.
Please, if you can spare even a few dollars pitch in and help us help the horses.
CLICK HERE TO MAKE A DONATION WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD.
ZIPPY UPDATE!
Zippy came to The Animali Farm in April, a very sad young horse, one of the thinnest we have ever had here. He had been sick, and by some miracle survived. His thick coat hid the worst of his bones, and most likely is what saved him. When we touched him and felt what was under the thick coat we wanted to cry. Truly the first few weeks he was here we didn't expect him to survive. Zippy is tough though. He ate his food, slept in the warm California sunshine, and recovered!
Zippy wants everyone to know that he is doing very well!  He has now had two baths, most of that thick coat is gone, and his new shiny hair is actually showing a bit of a fat behind!
Zippy is now available for adoption. He is at The Animali Farm in California. He is going to be a smaller horse. He has been very accepting of everything we have asked of him, and we think he will be a joyful part of some lucky adopters life!

RESCUE UPDATE!
Last fall The Animali Farm began the process of finding homes for nearly 300 horses in North Dakota. These horses were located at two ranches that were formerly in the PMU business. They asked our help in placing brood mares, their foals, along with some geldings and stallions.
So far we have been able to place, and deliver, over 150 of these horses to new homes.
We are currently making plans for a trip to North Dakota to take pictures of the remaining horses so that we can get them on the web site. We are hoping to travel towards the end of July, if we have the funds. With everyone's help we plan on completing the job in North Dakota this year!

The Animali Farm is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization devoted to finding homes for horses that would otherwise go to slaughter. Over 2000 horses have been placed since 2003.
The vast majority of the horses we have placed came directly out of the PMU industry. We have placed nearly all of the horses from 15 different ranches as they left the PMU business.
Adopted horses have been delivered to new homes all over the United States. A few have even traveled overseas. Horse lovers from all over the world have helped in this effort. Donations help defray the cost. Sharing of information over the Internet has given the horses a much wider audience, and the chance they needed to have someone find them, and want to give them a chance at a good life.

This trembling wet scared little girl about to POP was standing on Maxey Road on the sidewalk desperately searching for a place to lay her head and have her babies.  I had a choice to leave her there and get hit within 24 hours by a car or put her in my car NOT knowing what I was going to do with her.  I called Penny whom has begged me to help her with funds and foster/rescue.  In a real bind.  It's just that simple.  She was trembling sooooo much and I thought she was in labor with the lightning above her.  She was so lost and disoriented because someone probably dumped her when she got pregnant on this street....................................

Will let Penny know if donations go to the vet or not, but in the meantime here is a CHIP IN and the only way we can save her and puppies lives.

PLEASE CROSS POST  --  DONATIONS NEEDED
I have finally been able to get to a new computer and start answering all the emails.  Unfortunately my old computer seems to have decided to die on the trip to town.

I apologize for the delay and for sending out this update as a mass mailing.  However, the numbers of emails and phone calls have been staggering.  Thanks for your concern -- it truly keeps us revitalized.  At times everything seems a bit overwhelming, but our mission is very clear and we will do whatever we need to do that is in the best interest of the animals.

The animals are all doing good or as well as can be expected under the circumstances.  Our original plan was just to evacuate the animals who were easiest to move and would be the least traumatized by the trip to town.

We have spent a lot of resources to ensure a "Survive In Place" option was possible for the very unsocial animals.  There are a number of reasons for this.  It is very time-consuming, stressful and dangerous to catch up wolves that do not want to be caught.  Moving them to a strange place with strange people can also be extremely stressful and actually end up killing them.  In 2000 when we evacuated we actually lost an animal due to stress.

Although the fire did get to the facility and did burn down a small cabin and three sheds, it did not get the main cabin or any of the wolf habitats.  All of the fire mitigation work we have done including the fire dens seems to have done the job.  However at the request of the fire authorities we did evacuate the rest of the wolves on Thursday.  The authorities were uncomfortable with any residents being in the area.

The animals we evacuated on Thursday are all now out at the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg.  The animals we evacuated first are at a WOLF Board member's property outside of Loveland.  We are hoping to get them back into the Sanctuary soon, so as to limit the amount of stress related issues on the animals.

Please realize that our primary need is money.  Recovering from all of this is going to be very resource intensive. Thanks again and do let me know if you have any other questions.

We are trying to keep our FaceBook page updated as best as possible.  It might be your best bet to go there to keep updated.  FaceBook Link
