To date, we have only received $100 for Manolo's support. We know that other pledges were made, however we have not received these yet. Manolo is in boarding as we do not have a foster home open at this time. His boarding costs are $330 per month and we need help.Maria, Volunteer

Subject: MANOLO! IN NEED OF SPONSORS! Date: Wednesday, July 4, 2012, 2:45 PM Manolo (formerly Magnifico at Baldwin Park): Gorgeous 2-3 year old male German Shepherd formerly beaten and abused by someone (would cower if you tried to pet his head, and jump sky high with a touch he didn't see coming) did not have a chance at Baldwin, due to his fear and anxiety...too terrified to engage with humans.

PS...More of Manolo's story...I used to see him when I was visiting Thor. I promised myself that once Thor was safe and sound, he would be the next one I worked on getting out. All I saw in his eyes was terror, hypervigilance and anxiety, as he was just waiting for the next rounds of beatings to come. It took him forever (I don't even know how many visits) for him to just take a few steps over to me when I had a treat. He'd automatically put his head down and away and cower if I tried to pet his head, and once I patted him on the side without his expecting it, and he just went sky high. While the shelter said that he was highly adoptable (which is COMPLETELY ACCURATE, by the way!), I knew he still didn't have a chance since no one would give him a second look because he was too terrified to engage and interact with people...he didn't have prayer. So I made a few inquiries while Thor's fate was still in the balance concerning German Shepherds, and found out about GSROC. Once Thor was safe with Jen (and he's doing great! More details when I have them!), I began composing a plea for Manolo, and instead of blasting it, I just send an inquiry to GSROC on a Tuesday night, and heard back from them on Wednesday morning. I couldn't believe it. They were willing to take him, despite his not having any pledges...and so here I am, requesting financial support for this amazing rescue and Manolo, since they can't help others like him without further funding. He's not on death row anymore, but so many are, like the girl at Carson pictured above, and it's because of GSROC and rescues like them that these guys, who have only ever known emotional and physical terror by human hands, will finally become acquainted with our soft words and a loving touch. Please help them help others! THANK YOU ALL FOR EVERYTHING!
